In an interview on Sunday in “This Week” by ABC News, Democratic Senator Jack Reed denounced the recent verbal attacks by President Donald Trump against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a greater alignment with Russia.

“Essentially, this is President Trump who surrenders to the Russians,” Reed told the co-presenter Martha Raddatz.

“This is not a statesman or a diplomat,” Reed added. “This is just someone who admires Putin, does not believe in the struggle of the Ukrainians and is committed to advising an autocrat.”

Reed said that the statements that Trump recently made about Ukraine was “generally misleading or completely false,” and suggests that “it has no real intention to involve the Ukrainian government to find out what they need” in negotiations with Russia.

“It would be safer in that suggestion if there were a vigorous dialogue between the Ukrainians and the United States with respect to these negotiations, which we understood where their lines are, etc., that has not apparently happened,” he said.

To solve the war in Ukraine, Reed said it will be crucial “to communicate with the Russians who will be very, very serious about their actions in Ukraine.”

“What we have to do is keep the pressure and then go into negotiations, negotiations that will include Ukrainians, not exclude them.” He said: “And then with this pressure, hopefully, Putin will decide that the cost is too large to continue this effort.”

Speaking with Raddatz later, Republican representative Mike Lawler criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin as “a vile and thug dictator” who is “clearly responsible for the war in Ukraine”, despite Trump’s false statements at the beginning of the week In what Zelenskyy began the war.

“Russia, China and Iran have been working on a coordinated effort to undermine and destabilize the United States, Europe, Israel and the free world,” Lawler said. “They are not our allies or our friends, we must have clear eyes about that.”

Lawler said that “I did not agree with the president’s rhetoric about Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” but also said that Zelenskyy, “he said that the president is falling in love with Russian misinformation does not help his cause.”

“What I would say is this, it doesn’t give anywhere this round trip,” said Lawler. “I think President Zelenskyy needs to work with the administration, especially with respect to economic cooperation.”
