When the IRS dismissed thousands of workers throughout the country on Thursday, many dismissed employees left the headquarters in Washington, DC, for the last time.
An IRS worker, who left the building with a heavy suitcase and a stuffed canvas bag, told ABC News that he was originally hired to make the IRS more efficient.
“They brought me to do data and automation,” he said, adding that his colleagues were “surprised and injured” since the “understanding was that they brought me to do the most efficient things” and that the government would retain people with people with Your set of technical skills.

The sources told ABC News that IRS is expected to collect more than 6,000 test employees throughout the country from Thursday, approximately 6% of the IRS total workforce. A source familiar with the matter told ABC News that more than 100 people are being fired by the Washington offices, including more than 60 finishes from the IRS headquarters.
