New York – A collection of essays of the last David McCulloughIncluding some never published before, this fall will be launched.
“History Matters” is scheduled for September 16, Simon AND Schuster announced Tuesday. McCullough’s daughter, Dorie McCullough Lawson, and lifelong researcher Michael Hill co -edited the book. Historian partner Jon Meacham contributed to a prologue.
“It has been an honor to work with my father’s writings in the years since his death,” Lawson said in a statement. “My mother, Rosalee, always said that her work was built to last, and it has been reassuring to see how she was. What comes more clearly in this collection are the themes of her optimism, integrity, careful study, independence, creativity , hard work and love for the country. “
McCullough, who died in 2022 at age 89, was twice winner of the Pulitzer Prize and among the beloved and influential historians of his time. His books include biographies of President Harry Truman and President John Adams, “1776” and an acclaimed work on the Brooklyn bridge, “The Great Bridge.”
“In the course of his distinguished stories narration career, David McCullough emphatically showed the public why history is important,” Simon AND Schuster’s announcement reads in part.
“Now, at a time of self -reflection in the United States after an election that the divided country has left, its essays explore the central American values to which we all subscribe, regardless of which region we live in, with which political party we identify, or how our background differs: values such as optimism, determination and character. The book also shares McCullough’s advice on writing along with its own early influences and inspirations. ”
